Indonesia and Timor Leste will have their first friendly Match

Indonesia is one of Timor Leste’s neighbor had accepted a friendly match with Timor Leste on 24 November, 2010.  The two neighbors had long history from the invasion, referendum, Independences and now friendly match. Timor Leste had fought hard for independences and even for Timorese individual to survive the invasion of 1975 and even Santa Cruz massacre. Many Timorese have lost many of their love one due to Indonesia’s military ( TNI).  Some of Timorese still remember the traumatic event in 1999 (Santa Cruz massacre) and they have move on but the victim of Santa Cruz want to bring justice for Indonesia. Timor Leste national football team had meet Indonesia in 2008 Asian Beach Games. Timor Leste was facing Indonesia during their first game of 2008 Asian Beach Games, which they loss by 9-1. Timor Leste senior team has to pull great turn out for their country this year. Timor Leste football team have gone many changes from drawing Cambodia during 2008 AFF Suzuki Cup and calling all Timorese oversea players to play in Timor Leste in 2010 AFF Suzuki Cup Qualification and 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualification.  What does this friendly match mean for Timor Leste; is it revenge getting back at Indonesia for all the killing or being good neighbor and play well in friendly match. Well we don’t know but we know that was the past and Timor Leste have move on. Indonesia is home for most of Timorese that live there and all the Timorese still can speak Indonesian.  The location of the friendly match is not informed yet but probably will be at Jakarta or Bali.     I think this article is one of the rubbish out there ever written about any sporting event or competition. Sport is about friendship, unity, and sportmanship.

      I agreed with you Mr Costa, but it is fact. Indonesia treat Timor Leste really badly over the years before we Independence. I think every Timorese players fell so angry that they want win this game badly. Im sure you are angry too with all Indonesian. It’s time to get revenge on Indonesia by winning them. This article is about Timor Leste first friendly game with it neighbor and it also tell the history of two countries. I know sport is about sportmanship, friendship, and unity but for Timor Leste’ case is about getting revenge on Indonesia not by killing them but winning the match.

    I think the Indonesian people today do not like when timor leste not yet independent,
    Indonesia now is not bad as before. I also feel how the feeling of heart timor. Indonesia is now more friendly to anyone.
    but football remains football, are looking for is not a victory for revenge. but how can we be that football can unite a nation that formerly war and hostile, but thanks to the country’s football could again sit in a friendship.
